Lock Screen, StandBy, Control Center and the Action Button

The whole point of Next3Trains is getting your departures in front of you in a couple of seconds, so there are several ways to reach it without hunting for the app icon.

Home Screen widgets

The Next3Trains widget comes in small, medium and large sizes. Which route it shows is chosen for you - see Why is my widget showing the wrong station?. On iOS 17 and later, the circular arrow icon in the widget’s header is a button: tap it to pull fresh data without opening the app.

Lock Screen widgets

The widget is also available in the three Lock Screen styles - rectangular, circular and inline - so you can have your next departure on the Lock Screen itself.

StandBy

Because the widget comes in the small size, it can be used in StandBy when your iPhone is charging on its side, which makes for a reasonable bedside or desk departure board.

Control Center and the Action Button

On iOS 18 and later there’s a Check Trains control. Add it to Control Center, put it on your Lock Screen in place of the torch or camera, or assign it to the Action Button if your iPhone has one. It opens Next3Trains straight to your next departures.

Spotlight

Your saved routes are indexed in Spotlight on iOS 18 and later, so pulling down on the Home Screen and typing something like “trains to Waterloo” will find the route directly.
